I-8, Campus
Reading Coach — Concentrations (Part-Time) I-8 Campus | Grades 1 & 2 | 4 Days a Week
At Edopia, concentrations give children one sustained pursuit for an entire term; one ustad, one thing, all the way through. This is your space. Four days a week, you will sit with Grade 1 and 2 children and do one thing well: help them fall in love with reading.
What This Role Is
Reading in this concentration is not about decoding words on a page. Children in Grades 1 and 2 are already building their phonics through their literacy classes. This space is for something different; the experience of a story, the pleasure of language, the feeling that a book has something to offer you personally.
You will read aloud, act stories out, ask children what they think will happen next, let them argue about characters, and show them, through how you engage with books yourself that reading is worth caring about.
What You Will Do
Lead daily reading sessions that centre story, imagination, and discussion
Use read-alouds, role play, dramatisation, and conversation to bring books to life
Help children infer meaning, make connections, and develop their own responses to what they read
Build a genuine relationship between children and books over the course of the term
Select texts that are age-appropriate, engaging, and worth spending time on
Observe which children are engaging and which are not, and adjust your approach accordingly
What We Are Looking For
Someone who visibly loves reading and can bring that into a room of six and seven year olds
Experience working with young children in a reading, storytelling, or language-based capacity
The ability to make a story come alive, through voice, expression, pace, and genuine enthusiasm
Comfort with child-led conversation and the patience to let children respond in their own way
An understanding that the goal here is not comprehension scores, it is a lasting relationship with books
What Matters Here
Children at this age are still deciding whether reading is for them. What you do in this concentration, how you hold a book, how you respond to a story, how you make a child feel when they share what they think, shapes that decision more than most people realise.
We want someone who understands that and takes it seriously.
How to Apply
Apply through our form and include a short note about your background, a book you love reading with or to children, and how you would spend a typical session in this concentration.
