Banigala

Cambridge IGCSE English Language Educator

We are looking for an English Language Educator to teach Cambridge IGCSE English First Language (Code 0500) at Edopia's Banigala campus. This is a full-time position.

Position Overview

At Edopia, we believe good writing comes from clear thinking. Students in the IGCSE years are ready to read closely, argue with care, and write with a purpose. They also feel the pressure of exams. They need a teacher who helps them do both: grow as readers and writers, and walk into the exam hall prepared.

In this role, you will teach the full 0500 course. You will help students read different kinds of texts with understanding, write for different audiences, and speak with confidence. You will know the syllabus well and teach it with honesty, so students understand what is asked of them and why.

What You Will Do

  • Teach the Cambridge IGCSE English First Language (0500) syllabus from start to finish

  • Help students read fiction and non-fiction texts closely and respond with clear evidence

  • Teach directed writing, so students can write for a stated audience, purpose, and form

  • Teach composition, both descriptive and narrative, with attention to voice, structure, and word choice

  • Build speaking and listening skills through discussion, presentation, and debate

  • Give clear written feedback and use past papers and mark schemes to show students how to improve

  • Track each student's progress and share it with the team and with parents

What We Are Looking For

  • A strong command of written and spoken English, with correct grammar and a wide vocabulary

  • Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English First Language, or a similar upper secondary course

  • A good understanding of the 0500 assessment objectives, paper formats, and mark schemes

  • The ability to teach students at different levels in the same class, from those who are confident to those who are still finding their voice

  • Skill in marking fairly and giving feedback that students can use

  • Patience, consistency, and a real interest in how each student is growing

What Matters Here

Many students at this age believe they are either good at English or they are not. A good teacher shows them that writing is a skill they can learn, step by step.

We also care about exactness. A strong answer is not only about ideas. It is about how well they are chosen, ordered, and written down. We want a teacher who helps students see the difference and who is honest with them about where they stand.

Your classroom should be a place where students read widely, think carefully, and feel safe to say, "I don't understand this yet."

How to Apply

Please apply through our form. Include a short note about your academic background, your experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE English, and how you would help a student move from an average answer to a strong one in directed writing.
